NAVEGACIÓN DE PACIENTES INTERNATIONAL, INC. (NPI)
NPI is a nonprofit organization, registered in Boston, Massachusetts, that has been training and certifying patient navigators in Spanish in Latin America since 2016.
Recently (In 2022), NPI signed a formal agreement with the Istmo University in Guatemala, where the university has endorsed our training curriculum. This curriculum is based mainly on George Washington Cancer Center’s Patient Navigation Guide.

María del Rosario Escobar Hernández

From 2014 to date, she has been the Coordinator of the Patient Navigation Program at the National Cancer Institute Mexico, being the primary function to accompany patients in the process of the disease, identifying their needs, and breaking down the barriers that are presented to them so that they continue with their oncological treatments and have a better quality of life.

Degree in Administration Sciences has more than 15 years of work experience initially carrying out accounting and administrative activities and for the last nine years working as Manager and Patient Navigator of the Complex Cases Program in the Wuqu' organization Kawoq in Guatemala, currently working as Human Resources Manager of the same organization. Since June 2021, Mérida has been certified as a Patient Navigator by NPI.

Psychologist and deputy director of the Hospice Villa de la Esperanza of Fundación Ammar Ayudando in Guatemala. She is a Clinical, Health, and Palliative Care Psychologist. She performs interventions to prevent and promote the health and disease process, with experience in approaching patients and families with life-limiting diseases. He is part of the Psychology Commission of the Latin American Association of Palliative Care (ALCP).

Nurse patient navigator at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Graduated from the Belize School of Nursing as a Practical Nurse in 2000. She has had over 20 years’ experience in the nursing field. Since 2018, Margaret received oncology nursing and patient navigation training through Global Oncology and has been a key element since the opening of the first public oncology unit in Belize.
Ramoncito Argenes Yacab, M.D.
Medical Oncologist consultant at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, the tertiary hospital for Belize. Received his bachelor’s degree at Universidad Carlos de Guatemala, Guatemala in 2010 and completed specialty training in Medical Oncology at Universidad Auntonoma de Mexico in 2017. He has been working at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, Belize since 2018 as the oncology consultant.

Currently, Dr. Paredes is Chief of the Department of Medical Informatics and Data Science at Arturo Lopez Perez Foundation, a non profit oncology foundation that seeks to resolve complex cancer-related problems in Chile at low cost with a high-quality service.
